EICR and fixed wire testing in Cambridge
All electrical installations wear with age and use. A periodic inspection, recorded in an Electrical Installation Condition Report, tells you whether yours is still safe and what to do if it isn’t.
What an EICR checks
An EICR is the formal record of a periodic inspection and test of an installation’s fixed wiring. It replaced the old Periodic Inspection Report and is written against the current Wiring Regulations, BS 7671. It looks at:
- the safety of people against electric shock and burns
- protection of the property against fire and heat caused by a fault in the installation
- anything damaged or deteriorated that could affect safety
- anything that doesn’t comply with BS 7671, or any defect that could give rise to danger
The report records the results so you know the installation is safe to use until the next inspection, and it’s an important record of the installation as it was on the day.
Who needs one
Every installation should be inspected and tested periodically. We test:
- offices, shops and restaurants
- industrial buildings
- rented homes and HMOs, including student accommodation (see landlord certificates)
- hotels, guest houses and B&Bs
- agricultural properties and buildings
- houses, when you buy, sell or simply aren’t sure when the wiring was last checked
When to have one
Have one when the date on your last certificate comes round, after flood or fire damage, when you buy or sell a property, or if you don’t know when the installation was last tested.
How often?
IET guidance suggests every five years for most commercial premises and rented homes, three for industrial premises, and ten for an owner-occupied home or on a change of occupancy. The inspector may set a shorter interval depending on the condition and use of the installation.
Testing at your business
We agree dates and an order of work with you before we start, so you know what will be switched off and when. Your report comes with a clear list of anything that needs attention, and we can quote for and carry out the remedial work.
EICR codes
- C1 danger present
- C2 potentially dangerous
- FI further investigation
- C3 improvement recommended
C1, C2 or FI make a report unsatisfactory.
What customers say about our testing
Rated 4.7 out of 5 from 24 reviews on Trustpilot
After a prompt quote, and effective communications to agree a date- an EICR (for our community building) was efficiently carried out by a team of three engineers in a day. Very happy with the service and competitive price.
Really informative about issues (and non-issues!) as well as being friendly – great customer service. Much more thorough than a separate EICR I had done at a flat in Leicester. Definitely worth paying that bit more for.
Very happy with service provided. Quotation competitive and prompt. Electrical inspection carried out in a professional and polite manner, subsequent further work (installation of new lighting) completed promptly and effectively.
